Happy Halloween!!!

Here's our pumpkins, sat on the windowsill facing inside so the kids could see their faces - I'm sure the neighbours thought we were crackers.  (I did point them outwards once I'd lit them, I'm not that crazy!!!)

Anyway, we did some Halloween themed sensory play today.  It wasn't quite what I had planned, but Freya in particular loved it.  All I did was tip a packet of red lentils into a washing up bowl and add some black beans (which I had time consumingly picked out of a bag of mixed dried beans as I couldn't find them for sale on their own!).  I had intended to put some other spooky bits in there, but didn't manage it for assorted reasons, so it was just the lentils and beans.

Riley got bored of it quite quickly, which isn't like him at all, but Freya got right into it, hogging the bowl and even climbing in it eventually!

You can just see the state of my kitchen floor - she was grabbing handfuls and running up and down sprinkling and giggling as she went!!!  She absolutely loved it.  Its by far the most successful sensory play I've done with her to date.

Paper Plate Pumpkins

Its hardly groundbreaking, but it was a simple Halloween project we could do while Freya was asleep this morning.  We actually did it in two stages - we painted the backs of some paper plates bright orange yesterday, so today was making faces out of black paper shapes.

He got a bit carried away with one so it has extra bits on it, and another looks like a wierd earless cat(!), but he had fun and thats what counts.  I try to let it be about process as much as possible, but he likes to have a finished product he can relate to, so some gentle steering is required every now and then!  (You can tell which one I 'steered' on!!!)  The final touch was to stick a green paper stalk to the back of each of them and then we hung them up on our living room door.  A lovely decoration for Halloween!

Wow - my first post!

Ooh - I'm so excited to finally be posting!  I've been thinking about blogging for a while now for a whole load of reasons, but I do procrastinate.  So I thought, for post number one, I'd give you a little look into our lives and the things we're doing at the moment.  So.....

There's some painting.....

Some Drawing........

Some gluing (the current favourite activity!)......

Some sensory play......

And some outdoors fun......

We're attempting a Halloween project tomorrow - some more gluing, as long as the little one sleeps (she's not very consistent!)  I forsee tiny bits of black paper everywhere!!!!!
